Summer is becoming Fall and that means racing circuits are shifting their tacks and opening days are popping up across the U.S. Two tracks starting this weekend are Fairplex Park on September 9 and Kentucky Downs on September 11.

The Fairplex meet takes place in conjunction with the LA County Fair in Pomona, California and runs from September 9 until September 25. Racing days are Wednesday through Sunday with post time Thursday through Sunday at 4:00 ET and Wednesday at 7:00 ET Link Rajabandot.

The feature race on opening day is the $50,000 Beverly J. Lewis stakes for three-year-old fillies. The race drew a field of five led by California Nectar.

California Nectar exits a win on the turf at Del Mar and gets the services of the all-time leading rider at Fairplex Park Martin Pedroza. Pedroza is a monster on the bull-ring and his horses are often over bet, but the rider brings them home regardless of price.

Not only does California Nectar get Pedroza in the irons, but she is also a Grade 2 winner on the dirt having won the Santa Ynez at Santa Anita in January. In her next start, the Grade 1 Las Virgenes, California Nectar finished behind Zazu, Turbulent Descent and Plum Pretty.

Skipton Creek, Joe Ja, True Way of Grace and Sentimental Ballad complete the field with post time at 8:00 ET.

As the California circuit heads to the bull-ring dirt track at Fairplex, the Kentucky circuit gets a little European feel for two weekends.

Saturday, September 10 is opening day at Kentucky Downs, which is in Franklin, Kentucky on the Kentucky/Tennessee border. The track is over a mile and one-half long and is not oval shaped like many of the U.S. tracks. The only races they run at the track are on the turf, which resembles courses in Europe.
